Yes my friends we're going to talk about the dreaded B word..... Budget! It's something that no one, not even coordinators, likes to talk about. Let's be honest we all wish we could spend several thousands of dollars on the wedding and the honeymoon but most of us won't, or can't, afford to do that.
When you start looking into coordinators most of them will have many different options as far as planning goes. This will also depend on how much help you want, be prepared that if you want someone to plan the whole thing it's going to be more expensive. Most wedding coordinators will ask for a budget up front to get an idea of what they are working with. Not to offend you by any means but to figure out where to focus as far as wedding costs go.
Always keep in mind is that your coordinator is your right hand man. The budget you give them is what they will work with so don't think of them as the bad guy when they tell you the $1,500 chocolate fountain is not in the budget. It is there job at the end of the day for you to have the wedding you want and to keep the couple on track with spending. It your job, as well at there's, to make sure that everything booked for the wedding is in budget.
Be realistic with the wedding budget too. A way to get everything you want at your wedding is to plan it several months out. When we found our venue we had to book it 16 months out which I wasn't happy with at first but soon realized that it gave me time to plan and to pay for everything ahead of time. This made the whole process less stressful for me and my fiance.
Having wedding insurance is something else that could save you! Say you're getting married in the mountains but a huge snow storm comes through the night before, what do you do? Well wedding insurance can pay you back for most of your wedding stuff! So even though you might not get the wedding you wanted right then you won't be out a whole wedding budget.
A wedding coordinator is someone who is in your corner and there to help you and your significant other stay on track! However it is also up to you to listen and take their advice into consideration.
Happy planning!
